While photography has alway been a passion in Helga's life, she didn't have the time nor resources to devote to her "gift", as she calls it, till recently. In her earlier years her photography was mostly dedicated to taking pictures of her family and while traveling on vacation.
It is just the last couple of years that she had the opportunity to really "indulge". Talk to her about photography and you will see her face lightening up. "When I have a camera in my hand I feel whole", she shared with me the other day. "I really become aware of my surroundings and its inherent beauty and I want to create images for everyone to see and experience as well".
Beacon Hill Park is close to her home, and so she started by wandering through the Park after work, capturing the Park as she experiences it. "Spending all those hours in the Park gave a sense of serenity to my otherwise unsettled life" she says. It confirmed to her that worthwhile objects are everwhere, especially in your own neighbourhood. "One just needs to slow down enough from the pace of everyday's life to be able to see." Helga has been photographing in Beacon Hill Park for quite a while now and has a vision of publishing a collection of her favourite shots one day.
Having received so much feedback and encouragement from her friends as to not keep her images hidden on her PC, she now makes her images public on her webpage. She still will argue that her images are "not perfect by any means'", but agreed to share her photos.
Any feedback you can give Helga, will be greatly appreciated.
